Pay rate: $15.50 per hour 

Hours per wk: 10 hrs 

Start Date: September 1, 2025 

End Date: May 2025

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sustainability Office Intern will support the mission of advancing sustainability initiatives across campus. This position provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, program development, and campus engagement. In addition to assisting with office projects and outreach, interns will design and implement a personal project aligned with their interests and the college’s sustainability goals.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in planning, promoting, and executing sustainability-related programs, campaigns, and events.
  • Conduct research on best practices for campus sustainability and contribute recommendations for new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners to advance sustainability goals.
  • Create educational and outreach materials (social media posts, newsletters, flyers, digital content, etc.) to increase awareness of sustainable practices.
  • Track, organize, and report on sustainability metrics (energy use, waste diversion, recycling, etc.) as needed.
  • Develop and implement an individual sustainability project, with guidance from the Office of Sustainability, that addresses a campus need or opportunity.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the Office of Sustainability by promoting awareness and encouraging student, staff, and faculty participation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interest in sustainability, environmental studies, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Creative problem-solving and project management abilities.
  • Prior experience with campus involvement, community outreach, or environmental initiatives is a plus.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, students will:

  • Gain practical experience in sustainability program development and execution.
  • Strengthening leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of sustainability challenges and solutions in higher education.
  • Contribute meaningful change to the college community through a personal project.
