Position Title: Mathematics TA

Semester/Year: Fall 2026 

Total Positions Available: at least 9 (one or two for each lab/class, though a student may apply for multiple labs/classes)

Supervisors: Professors Forde, Hao, King and Rusinko

Pay rate: $16 per hour 

Hours per week: 2

Start Date: 8/31/2026

End Date:  12/11/ 2026

 

LABS AVAILABLE

  • MATH 131 with Professor King, Thursdays, 11:30AM-1:00PM
  • MATH 131 with Professor King, Thursdays, 1:10-2:40PM

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of the course (or equivalent) for which you wish to TA.
  • Experience discussing mathematics with peers, even if not in a formal tutorial situation (for example, collaborating on mathematical exercises in a class).
  • Availability during the scheduled lab time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess extremely strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative.
  • Ability to admit when you do not know the answer to a question.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review course materials before each class/lab (the position pays for one half hour per week outside of the scheduled time so that TAs have time before class/lab to review).
  • Attend classes/labs punctually.
  • Foster student collaboration within their groups when applicable.
  • Proactively encourage students to experiment, look at their notes and ask questions.
  • Patiently answer questions, guide students to find their own answers.
  • Assist instructor in cleaning up the classroom when the class/lab period is over.

 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Review of applications will begin August 27th and continue until positions are filled. Interested applicants are to submit a cover letter and a resume. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter which class/labs they are interested in working and why, as well as how many they would like to TA. Include a list of references that can attest to your knowledge and experience, whether a former instructor for a class for which you were a student, or a former lab instructor for a lab for which you were a TA. You may be contacted by the lab instructor of your prospective position for additional information or an interview.

 

Students hired into on-campus jobs must complete federal employment paperwork, including the Form I9. Students must present original documents indicating they are eligible to work in the U.S. Photocopies of documents cannot be accepted. Students should ensure they have their documents on campus or have a plan to get their documents to campus if they are hired to work on campus.
