Admissions Summer Intern

Total Positions Available: 8 Interns
Supervisor: Joshua Hylkema
Pay rate: $14.20 per hour
Start Date: May 22, 2023
End Date: August 28, 2023
 
Description
 
A Summer intern in the HWS Office Admissions will experience a variety of responsibilities that will assist in recruitment of the next great class to HWS. Interns will introduce the Colleges’ campus, curriculum, and programs to prospective students and their families. They will also be assigned general office tasks such as answering phones, running errands, special projects and helping with mass mailings. All interns are expected to assist with special events, including weekend programs.
 
Responsibilities

  • Marketing Hobart and William Smith Colleges by communication through email, phone, social media, and traditional mailings
  • Touring prospective students and families around campus, answering questions and helping with requests
  • Providing students with information and assistance regarding admissions application procedures and timelines, and establishing a continuum of personalized communication with prospective candidates
  • Assisting with outreach to prospective students
  • Participating in on-campus admissions events
  • Assisting staff with regional and functional duties as requested
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications
 
The Applicant must: 
  • Have a strong customer service orientation: positive, helpful, resourceful
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of students
  • Demonstrate a firm knowledge of the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission
  • Be highly reliable (at work on-time or call in advance) 
  • Be flexible and adaptable
Preferred Qualification
  •  At least 1 semester of residency at HWS
  •  Energetic, positive attitude
  •  Sales experience
  •  Demonstrate a genuine desire to help others: people friendly, respectful, willing to go the extra mile to help folks find answers to questions, give accurate directions.
