Position Title: HWS Votes Co-Chair

Semester/Year: 2024-2025

Total Positions Available: 1

Supervisor: Peter Budmen

Pay rate: $15/hr

Hours per Week: 2-4 

Start Date: August 26, 2024

End Date: May 5, 2025

 

Position Description:

  • Support the drafting, revision, and implementation of the ALL In Campus Voter Engagement Action Plan
  • Organizing and maintaining an active group of student volunteers
  • Organizing student Voter Registration drives each fall, making sure to train volunteers to register others to vote
  • Organizing Voter Education activities: providing non-partisan information on the political process, candidate positions etc.
  • Providing information to students about state-specific deadlines and rules, absentee ballot information and resources, and process general questions that CCESL receives
  • Organizing events (usually in coordination with other clubs and Student Activities) surrounding politicized events such as Super Tuesday, Election Nights, Political Policy Panels, Pizza with a Politician, and a Get Out the Vote rally
  • Facilitating meetings and workshops related to above activities 
  • Utilizing communication vehicles (CCESL and HWS Votes social media, Daily Update, etc.) to promote awareness and participation of above activities 
  • Coordinating with Professors of Political Science, club leaders from clubs such as: College Democrats/Republicans, and state/local politicians as appropriate/available
  • Becoming familiar with resources from the local Board of Elections and studentvote.org (the youth voting effort that is aligned with HWS’ voter registrations)
  • Help coordinate Congress to Campus visits

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidates will need to be excellent at managing their time and be prompt for every meeting. 
  • Candidates must be dependable, as this job involves working with community partners.
  • Candidates must be patient, helpful, and sensitive to the challenges the community faces and help to find creative solutions to the struggles or problems.
  • Candidates must be able to keep a positive attitude, and are encouraged to demonstrate leadership and initiative. 
  • Candidates must demonstrative effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Bilingual HWS students are encouraged to apply
