Quail Care Technician

Position Title:  Quail Care Technician

Semester/Year: 2024/2025 Academic Year

Total Positions Available: 2

Supervisor: Justine Simms

Pay rate: $15 per hour

Start Date: Immediately

End Date: May 8, 2025

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quail Care Technician is responsible for the daily care and management of quail in a facility setting. This role involves ensuring and monitor the health and well-being of the birds, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and assisting in enrichment and research activities as needed.

 Hour Requirement: 

  • 7-10 hrs per week 
    • 1hr/day for daily up-keeping 
    • 1.5-2hr/day for deep cleaning days 

 

Qualifications: 

  • No previous experience required 
  • Preferred Experience: Animal care experience, animal science courses 
  • Skills: 
    • Strong observational skills to monitor animal health. 
    • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and cleaning. 
    • Good communication skills for reporting and teamwork. 
    • Dependable 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Daily Care: 
    • Feed and provide fresh water to quail daily. 
    • Monitor the health and behavior of the birds, identifying any signs of illness or distress. 
  • Habitat Maintenance: 
    • Clean and sanitize cages and enclosures regularly to ensure a hygienic environment. 
  • Record Keeping: 
    • Maintain accurate records of feed consumption, health observations, breeding activities, and other relevant data. 
    • Report any abnormalities or issues to the supervisor promptly. 
  • Safety and Compliance: 
    • Follow all safety protocols and animal welfare regulations to ensure the ethical treatment of quail. 
    • Participate in training and development programs as required.
